HISTORY OF THE CLUB
|
Cosmopolitan International is a chartered not-for-profit civic service organization that was founded in 1918. It consists of some 70 clubs located throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with a total membership of nearly 2,000 persons. While Cosmopolitan's principle effort is directed at the fight against diabetes, its member clubs also support community service projects and charitable causes in the communities where they are located. The officers of Cosmopolitan International are members of the organization and are assisted by an Executive Director and staff. The organization is divided into seven regions referred to as Federations and each Cosmopolitan club, with limited exceptions, belongs to one of these seven federations. Each year all of the members of the various Cosmopolitan clubs are invited to attend the International Convention. The next annual convention will be held in Gettysburg, Pa. July 28-31, 2010.
Our Mission To contribute to community well-being through charitable donations and volunteer service with special emphasis on supporting efforts to prevent and find a cure for diabetes. Our Objectives To SERVE others . . . by assisting others to obtain a more fruitful, productive, and happier lifestyle through the path of unselfish service. To develop UNITY . . . by the collective action of the membership within the community for the betterment of all. To take ACTION . . . which will contribute to community well-being and accomplish the defined goals of the individual club in order that all may live in a better world.
The Scottsbluff Cosmopolitan Club was originally chartered as the Gering-Scottsbluff Cosmopolitan Club in 1928 but was disbanded in the mid 1930’s due to the hardships of the era. The Club was re-chartered on May 24, 1947 with 20 members. The Club grew to over 50 members. Membership was by invitation only and was composed of local business and professional men who were willing to volunteer their time to help others in their communities. In 1991, the Scottsbluff Club invited their first women to become a member. |
